The Future of Infinite Series
It’s been nearly 6 years since Infinite Brass first launched on Kontakt 5.7. Infinite Woodwinds followed soon after. Over the course of the years, Infinite has grown from a niche orchestral toolkit used to cover for conventionally sampled instruments’ pitfalls to a slightly-less-niche orchestral toolkit confidently used in big budget AAA productions in all corners of the world.
As the user base increased, so did the amount of feedback and the improvements were exponential. Infinite Brass got the “Ship of Theseus” treatment over the course of its 6 major updates, and Infinite Woodwinds 2.0 was shipped as an entirely new set of patches and samples with new spaces. As these were now at a satisfactory level, I turned to experimenting with deeper changes, driven by the increasing amount of feedback from professionals working with big projects and tight deadlines.
With the new plans for the Brass and Woodwinds updates and the demanding feature set of the in-development string and percussion libraries, Infinite’s ambition has outgrown Kontakt’s abilities.
Therefore, Infinite series will be moving on to the native VST/AU/AAX format for Windows and macOS, starting with Infinite Brass.
PRICE ADJUSTMENT
There will be a price adjustment when the native versions of Infinite Brass and Infinite Woodwinds launch.
To celebrate this rebirth of the series, both Infinite Brass and Infinite Woodwinds will be discounted ($299) until the native version launch. The discount applies to the bundle as well, with total savings up to $299.
WILL THE UPDATES BE PAID? WHAT ABOUT THE KONTAKT VERSIONS?
When the native versions launch, all existing users will receive the native versions for free. You will get to keep the old Kontakt versions of Infinite Brass and Infinite Woodwinds, and download them from your FastSpring user dashboard for the foreseeable future.
Once the native versions launch, it will not be possible to purchase the Kontakt versions.
WHY MOVE TO NATIVE? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The primary focus of the future updates, even before the move to native was decided on, was the streamlining and improvement of professional and demanding workflows. Natively, the instruments will have fewer restrictions in communication, filesystem features and the ability to do custom digital signal processing. This will allow for the full implementation of the models and deliver a more playable, more responsive, and better-sounding collection of instruments.
Some of the major new features to make an appearance in the native versions are:
Automatic updating of instances within a project when a new version is installed
CC Mapping overview, export and propagation
Smooth and responsive UI with scaling
Instance crosstalk with custom grouping
Instant switching between instruments
Floating point dynamics for a smoother-than-ever dynamic response
1/1 perfect instrument voicing with no sampling-style overlap pitfalls
More control over the instrument behaviour
Native microtuning with support for various tuning systems
Built-in spectral shaping with optional non-linear saturation (for all the Spectre fans)
WHEN?
Soon™. The rollout will be staggered, with groups of existing users getting early access, followed by a full launch very shortly after if all goes smoothly.
